About the Role
Role Summary
We are looking for an experienced and driven Senior PHP Developer to join our engineering team in Ukraine. In this role, you will take ownership of designing, building, and maintaining high-performance web applications using modern PHP and the Symfony framework. You will work within an agile team to deliver scalable backend architectures, optimize critical application flows, and mentor other developers.
Key Responsibilities
• Architect, develop, and maintain robust backend services using PHP and the Symfony framework.
• Design efficient relational database schemas and optimize SQL queries using Doctrine ORM.
• Build, document, and maintain secure RESTful APIs for internal and external consumption.
• Conduct comprehensive code reviews to maintain high engineering standards and share best practices.
• Write and maintain unit, functional, and integration tests utilizing PHPUnit.
• Diagnose, troubleshoot, and resolve performance bottlenecks and production issues.
• Collaborate closely with product managers, QA specialists, and frontend engineers in an Agile environment.
• Contribute to continuous integration and continuous delivery (CI/CD) workflows and containerized deployments.
Requirements
Must-Have:
• 3+ years of professional backend software development experience with PHP.
• Strong, hands-on production experience with the Symfony framework.
• Solid understanding of Object-Oriented Programming (OOP), SOLID principles, and design patterns.
• Practical experience with relational database design and optimization (MySQL or PostgreSQL).
• Proficiency with Git version control and branching workflows.
• Solid experience in automated testing with PHPUnit.
• Familiarity with Docker and container-based development workflows.
• Intermediate or higher English proficiency for day-to-day team communication.
Nice-to-Have:
• Experience with asynchronous messaging systems such as RabbitMQ or Kafka.
• Familiarity with caching systems like Redis or Memcached.
• Knowledge of cloud infrastructure providers like AWS or GCP.
• Experience setting up CI/CD pipelines via GitHub Actions or GitLab CI.
